Architecture was in full swing in the caves at Monedas in Spain, and Chauvet in France, more than 100,000 years ago. Since man has roamed the earth, it has provided for himself shelter, light, and security from invaders. Much has been added since those days, like solutions to the need of function, comfort, artificial light, and climate control.

Monedas

At Monedas and Chauvet we have found hand painted art on the stones at both caves –probably the first sign of interior décor recordings in the history of mankind.

Since those days, architecture has evolved through the times in giant leaps in many ways, from the days of Mpumalanga, Gobekli Tepe, and Terra Amata to the pyramids of Giza and Chichen Itza. These structures have been tested by wars, cataclysmic-like weather, and earthquakes and have managed to survive and endure thru the times.

Because of man’s need, and the desire for improving its buildings, architectural designers have developed building structures for a better level of comfort. Through the centuries, architecture has gone thru multiple design periods/styles such as Romanesque, Rococo, Art Deco, Modern, and has taken us to where we are today.

Modern structures have been accomplished by the constant architectural and engineering improvements made by pioneer thinkers, designers, architects like Vitruvius, Da Vinci, FLW, Dorothy Draper, Gropius, Gaudi, Pei, and many others. They have paved the way for us so that we can continue their quest and enjoy what we have today.

Architecture has been morphing since Terra Amata, and will remain perpetually in this forever-evolving stage. It is our responsibility as architectural designers to search for new innovative ways so that we can improve our habitats and provide solutions to satisfy our insatiable appetite for new environments, and improve the social construction of a public space.

We have exceeded the challenge, and have delivered the message. Since Mpumalanga days, our labor has been rewarding, and as contemporary messengers we have provided virtuosos structures like The Coliseum, La Sagrada Familia, The Alhambra Palace, Taj Mahal, Giza Pyramids, Machu Picchu, The Empire State Bldg., and Gardens by the Bay -We have not begun to scratch the surface yet….

  1. I remember the day you shared this blog with me. You shared a passion of yours, writing. I had no idea, and was so intrigued. I wanted to know more about YOU. It was the first time I realized you were a person with interests, passions, hidden talents, goals ... not just my Dad. From that day forward we had real conversations, I asked more questions, and I can happily say that I got to know YOU. I was and still am so proud of you. You showed us all endless love, humility, strength, and courage. You are my hero. I love you more than all the stars in the sky.

    Love always,
    Kili
